Initial Impressions:
**When we began thinking about the Yeşilhisar Baths, from our initial notes to the site visit, instead of addressing the issue solely on a structural scale, we chose to step back and read it through the lens of "place, geography, and context."
During the site visit and ongoing work in the office, we realized that Yeşilhisar actually possesses a very strong geographical and spatial character. The district is home to the Soğanlı Valley, one of Cappadocia's important stops; rock-carved spaces, tuff formations, canyons, and valleys constitute the fundamental components of this geography. All this structure, surrounded by endemic landscape elements such as the Sultan Sazlığı (Sultan Reedbed), describes a rich and layered natural system.
However, the visibility of this strong tectonic and landscape character is quite weak today. We believe this observation will become one of the key determinants of the decisions we make during the project.**
