Since the Kadıköy Municipality Service Building represents a significant size at both the neighborhood and district levels, before moving on to our solutions for the building, we explored its potential for establishing/restoring relationships with the urban core elements we mentioned. Therefore, we can say that we made our decisions believing that the right approach was to find these urban nerve endings and enrich urban life by defining the relationships it would establish with the building we propose.
We proposed 'TRAMWAY SQUARE' for the open space where the planned Üsküdar - Kadıköy Tram Line stops are located, and which is actually surrounded by the Hasanpaşa neighborhood as a periphery. We suggested preserving this memory by recognizing the public/bureaucratic aspect of the space occupied by the statue, which defines a significant urban element and orientation in its current location, and we named the open space 'MUNICIPALITY SQUARE' as a second square. We also named the area encompassing the open space that will establish urban continuity along the green space axis with the 'urban connection' we proposed at a larger scale with the new metro stop, and which is defined by the proposed library program, 'LIBRARY SQUARE'.
City Passage: This urban transition area, connecting the Municipal Square to the Tramway Square, also aims to divide the building program on the ground floor, creating separate spaces for administrative units and halls to interact with each other and with the city. We believe this transition area will establish a strong urban link with our larger-scale decision regarding the Waterfront-Gasworks promenade.
